Provided is a lubricating oil base oil for a refrigeration system, the lubricating oil base oil having appropriate compatibility with a hydrocarbon refrigerant, appropriate viscosity, and the like. A lubricating oil base oil for a refrigerant comprising essentially a C1-8 hydrocarbon compound, wherein the lubricating oil base oil is polyoxypropylene monohydrocarbyl ether having a number-average molecular weight of 500 to 3200, and the number of carbons in the hydrocarbyl group is 6 to 32.
