A medium for use in an electrochromic display device is provided. The medium comprises methyl ethyl ketone as the solvent, N,N,N',N-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine as the oxidant, heptyl viologen tetrafluoroborate as the reductant and tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate as the conductive salt.
