A copying apparatus equipped with a sorter 2 which is arranged to accommodate through classification, a plurality of copy paper sheets 6, 7 in correspondence to a single original document, discharged from a main body 1 of the copying apparatus, into a plurality of bins 52 successively shifted to a paper discharge position 73 by a shifting means 53. The copying apparatus comprises a copy number preset key 100, memory means 173 for memorizing the preset number of copies, first counter 171 for counting the number of copied paper sheets, second counter 172 for counting the number of discharged copy paper sheets, means 87 for stopping the copying operation when the counted value of the first counter 171 is agreed with the memorized preset number of copies, a sort key 106 for selecting a mode for accommodating the copy paper sheets 6, 7 into the bins 52 through classification one single sheet by one single sheet, and an electrical circuit 152 for applying signal to the shifting means 53 in order to change the moving direction of the bins 52 when the counted value of the second counter 172 is agreed with the memorized preset number of copies in the sort mode.
