A zinc silicate phosphor represented by the formula:
where M II is at least one element selected from the group consisting of barium, calcium and strontium, M is at least one of antimony and bismuth, and x, y, a, b and c satisfy the conditions of O≦ x≦ 5 x 10 -2 , O≦2y≦ 5 x 10 -3 , 5 x 10 -5 ≦a≦3 x x 10 -2 , O≦b≦ 5 x 10 -3 and O -2 , respectively (provided x + 2y 0).
