Load measuring apparatus in which a force or the sum of forces applied to a beam is measured by measuring the strain in the beam between support points (31). To minimize the effects of misalignment and the production of spurious bending forces, forces are applied to the beam (20) by means (30, 31, 38) incorporating resilient material (32, 26).
