A layered elastomeric connector (16), which includes alternating adhered layers of a dielectric elastomer (12) and electrically conductive fibrous mats (10) coextensive with a cross-section of the connector to provide a multiplicity of conductive pathways between two electrically conductive surfaces. The connector (16) is housed in a housing member (18) and a method is disclosed for making connector (16).
