A tool insert comprises:
(a) a cemented carbide substrate (10) having two ends (12) (14) joined by a side (16); (b) a recess formed in one end (12) of the substrate and having a side (18) and a base (20), the side (18) sloping inwards towards a centre point of the base (20); (c) an abrasive compact (24) located in the recess and bonded to the substrate (10), the abrasive compact (24) having a top surface (26) which provides a cutting surface or edge (26) for the tool insert, a bottom surface complementary to the base (20) of the recess, and a side surface located in the recess, the side surface being complementary to the side (18) of the recess.
