The present invention discloses chiral liquid crystal compounds represented by the general formula I
intermediates for preparation of said compounds, liquid crystal compositions comprising said compounds, and liquid crystal optical modulators using said compositions wherein R 1 is an alkyl or alkenyl group, R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are alkyl groups, Q 1 , 0 2 and Q 3 are a single bond, a (thio)ether group, a (thio)carboxylic acid ester group, a carbonyl group or a carbonyldioxy group, M is a structure comprising six-membered 1,4-diyl groups, and n is an integer of 2-6.
