摘要:
This invention relates to a double heterostructure diode (10) and photodiode (10) which is selectively switchable between an emission mode and receiving mode. A light emitting active region (34) is localized and restricted by limitation of the area of contact to a window (44) in a silicon dioxide layer (37) and an optical fiber (42) is coupled to the diode at a lateral surface to provide substantially greater light emission from the lateral surface than from side emission.
