An apparatus for use in offices includes a planar liquid crystal shutter (62) disposed at least a portion of a surface of a housing of the apparatus, the shutter (62) being set to a transparent state or a non-transparent state depending on an input signal supplied thereto, and a controller (61) for applying to the shutter (62) a control signal to control the transparent or non-transparent state thereof.
