Use of a lubricant for compressors using a hydrofluorocarbon refrigerant containing no chlorine, comprising as a main component an ester(s) obtained by reacting (a) neopentyl glycol with (b) at least one branched-chain monovalent saturated fatty acid having a carbon number of 3-18, wherein said ester has a total acid value of not more than 3 mg KOH/g and a hydroxyl value of not more than 50 mg KOH/g.
