Laminar staple including two walls (2,3) which are substantially at right angles to each other and which form an edge (4) and two ribs (5,6) which extend substantially at right angles to the walls; the walls and the ribs form a cutting edge (7), and the ribs have two planar portions (5a,6a) substantially parallel to the edge which progressively diverge proximate to the cutting edge into circular arc portions (5b,6b).
