An image forming apparatus has a main body (10) to which is attached a device (12) for cutting paper from a roll and discharging the cut paper through an outlet. The roll paper cutting device is adapted to drive transport rollers (95,103,108) with predetermined timing based on the time when the paper travel is detected while all the transport rollers rotate idly in a standby state for paper feeding. The cutting device forwards the leading end of the paper to feed means (22) disposed in said main body in the paper path to the image forming station for the further transport of the paper onwards to be achieved by the transport means within the main body.
