Card receiver (1) having a slot (4) for receiving the front portion of a card (3), and card reader (1L) using such receiver, the card receiver (1) having bending means (6, 17P) applying to the card (3) a torsion force with respect to a bearing lip (5) of the slot (4) or with respect to a second opposite bearing edge (10). Once it is broken, the card (3) may be pushed further by another card so as to lose contact with the bearing lip (5) and fall in a cavity (12). Application to card reading apparatuses which do not accept the whole card.
