Furthermore, subleading hand rails (1Sc, 2Sc) adapted to be driven so as to run substantially in parallel with and faster than the low speed running mechanism are disposed on one side and upwardly of the low speed running mechanism. A material having a great friction coefficient relative to the shoe sole is selected for use as the tread of the step (1).
