Described are tris-(cyanato)-s-triazines of formula (I) in which R1 and R2 are each, independently of each other, halogen, hydrogen or a methyl or ethyl group, plus a method for the preparation of anisotropic duroplastic networks by the melt-polycyclotrimerization of polycyanates present as liquid-crystal tris-(cyanato)-s-triazines of formula (I) of claim 1, optionally in the presence of catalysts, comonomers and other commonly used additives. Also includes in the invention are anisotropic duroplastic networks obtained by this method. Such networks exhibit an E-modulus which is superior to that of comparable prior art products.
