A device for providing a seal between two contact parts (1, 2) movable in relation to each other, in particular between two valve flaps or a valve flap and a stop in a flue gas fitting, has an elastic sealing element (5) designed as a spring steel strip with two parallel and adjacent, flat clamping edges (6, 7) that face towards the same side and may be secured on one side by clamping means (9) to one contact part (1 or 2), as well as an arc-shaped sealing region (10). The sealing element (5) lies flat with a supporting surface located away from the clamping edges (6, 7) on the flat supporting surface (15) of a supporting element (8) that may also be secured by the clamping means (9) to one contact part (1 or 2). The other contact part (2 or 1) contacts the sealing element (5) at the apex of the curved sealing zone (10) and both contact parts (1, 2) move relatively to each other approximately tangentially to this apex. The supporting element (8) is arranged in the space enclosed by the curved sealing element (5).
