摘要：
An article is coated with a multi-layer coating comprising at least one nickel layer (13) deposited on the surface of the article (12), a palladium/nickel alloy layer (20) deposited on the nickel layer (13), a refractory metal, preferably zirconium, layer (22) deposited on the palladium/nickel alloy layer (20), a sandwich layer (26) comprised of alternating layers (28,30) of refractory metal compound and refractory metal deposited on the refractory metal layer (22), a refractory metal compound layer (32), preferably zirconium nitride, deposited on the sandwich layer (26), and a layer (34) comprised of a refractory metal oxide or the reaction products of a refractory metal, oxygen and nitrogen deposited on the refractory metal compound layer (32). The coating provides the color of polished brass to the article and also provides abrasion and corrosion protection.
