An exhaust gas purifying catalyst is comprised of a mixture of a meso-porous composite having an approximately uniform size of meso-pores and, if desirable, supporting ceria thereon and a catalytic component of an active metal supported on zeolite by an ion-exchanged method or comprised of an under layer of a meso-porous composite having an approximately uniform size of meso-pores and, if desirable, supporting ceria thereon and an over layer of a catalytic component of an active metal supported on zeolite by an ion-exchanged method.
