An injection device is disclosed for an internal combustion engine, in particular a Diesel engine, having a combustion chamber (16) formed by a piston (2), cylinder and cylinder head (1), a multi-hole injection nozzle (5) and a casing (3) which projects from the cylinder head (1) into the combustion chamber (16) and surrounds the nozzle (5) such that a precombustion chamber is formed at the top dead centre between the casing (3) and the piston (2). Also disclosed is a combustion process for an internal combustion engine, in particular a Diesel engine, using said injection device, with combined direct and swirl chamber injection at the top dead centre.
