The invention concerns a method of checking the operability of electrical components in a motor vehicle, conclusions being drawn about the operability of the electrical component from the resistance value measured between the terminals of said component. To that end, there is applied to the component a signal whose attenuation by the component is monitored. The invention further concerns a device for carrying out this method.
