The invention relates to a conveyor system for sorting articles, specially parcels, packages or containers, composed of a conveying surface (1) with two longitudinal sides, defined by an array of conveying surface members (13) moving in the direction of conveyance (F1) having two diverting elements (14) on the sides mounted on the conveying surface members (13), which move transversely to the direction of conveyance (F1) across the conveying surface members (13) from one side of the conveying surface (1) to the other side; a guiding element (21) positioned on the diverting elements (14) and extending from the conveying surface (1), which is adapted to move the diverting element (14) along the conveying surface members (13) on a guide track (12a, b) and a diverting track (11, 15, 16, 20); a first diverting gate (25b) and a second diverting gate (25a) following the first one in the direction of conveyance (F1), which are positioned along the guide track (12a, b) and interrupt said guide track (12a, b), and which can adopt either a non-diverting position, in which the guiding element (21) moves along the guide track (12a, b) uninterrupted, or a diverting position, in which the guiding element (21) is diverted from the guide track (12a, b); a first diverting track (11, 16) meeting the first diverting gate (25b) and a second diverting track (15, 20) meeting the second diverting gate (25a), the first diverting track (11, 16) and the second diverting track (15, 20) being configured with respect to each other in such a way that the articles (3a-e) are diverted initially in an orientation parallel to the direction of conveyance (F1) and, subsequently, rotationally in the direction of diversion (F2).
