Gloss pigments based on coated silicon dioxide platelets, obtainable by coating said platelets with a layer essentially consisting of titanium dioxide and then heating the coated platelets in a reducing atmosphere, and the production of said pigments and their use for colouring paints, printing inks, other inks, plastics, glasses, ceramic products and preparations for decorative cosmetics.
