A method for forming a decorative surface in a liquid coating applicator includes the steps of providing a surface having a plurality of elevated portions located so as to form a pattern on the surface, treating the elevated portions of the surface and applying the elevated portions against a liquid coating applicating medium of a liquid coating applicator so as to form a corresponding image in the liquid coating applicating medium.
