The invention relates to a method of cleaning a moving surface, e.g. a roller, wire or conveyor belt. According to the method, the surface is cleaned by means of a doctor blade comprising several separate blade means (7), which move in a direction transverse to the surface to be cleaned. The invention also relates to an apparatus comprising a doctor blade consisting of several separate blade means (7), which are arranged to move in a direction transverse to the surface to be cleaned so that they can be serviced and repaired during the run.
