An automatic cigarette processing machine (1) having a control unit (32) and a number of successive work stations (9), each having a respective number of operating devices (10); for each work station (9), the control unit (32) has at least one respective controller (33) directly connected to the work station (9) and for controlling all the operating devices (10) at the work station (9) substantially independently of the other controllers (33).
