The present invention relates to a sand valve and a sand shot system, in which the sand valve forms a sealable inlet for the sand into a sand storage container of a sand shot system, comprising a sand valve housing, a sand inlet port and a closure member for selectively opening and closing the sand inlet port, whereby the air inlet is arranged such that the "dead" space (4) above the column (9) of sand in the sand storage container is minimised.
