The invention relates to a device that comprises an accumulator tank (14) disposed in a storage tank (10), in which a delivery system (24) is mounted that delivers fuel to the internal combustion engine (12). A partial amount of the fuel delivered by the delivery system (24) is fed to a jet pump (60) which in turn delivers fuel from the storage tank (10) to the accumulator tank (14). An intake compartment (34) is disposed below the delivery system (24) close to the bottom (18) of the accumulator tank (14), from where the delivery system (24) takes in fuel. A connection of the intake compartment (34) with the accumulator tank (14) is controlled by a float valve (42) that is disposed laterally of the delivery system (24). When the accumulation compartment (14) is full, the intake compartment (34) communicates with the accumulation compartment (14) by way of said float valve so that the delivery system (24) takes in fuel from the accumulation compartment (14). A connection of the intake compartment (34) with the storage tank (10) is controlled by a non-return valve (52) that is disposed on the bottom (18) of the accumulator tank (14). When the accumulation compartment (14) is empty, the intake compartment (34) communicates with the storage tank (10) by means of said non-return valve so that the delivery system (24) takes in fuel from the storage tank (10).
