摘要：
The width of a development nip zone and an depth of bite between an image carrier 1 and a developing roller 4 are set in such a manner that the traveling speed of a local portion of the resilient developing roller that contacts the surface of the image carrier becomes gradually decreases from a point at which contact starts and thenceforth gradually returns to the original speed.
