The invention relates to a drive system for a vehicle, comprising a right-hand (34) and a left-hand drive wheel (36) that are driven by at least one electric motor (14, 16, 18, 20) and one transmission (30, 32). The invention is characterized in that the transmission (30, 32) comprises a mechanical, continuously adjustable transmission unit (50, 52). The continuously adjustable transmission unit (50, 52) allows for extension of the range of adjustment of the drive with respect to torque and maximum speed without interruption of tractive force, and makes it possible to fall back on powerful components.
