A device for transporting banknotes in a cash dispenser between at least one banknote compartment (16) for storing banknotes and an output point (34) respectively between the latter and a receiving container (18) for withdrawn banknotes, comprising a transport section (26,32) for a wad of notes which is disposed between the output point (34) and the collector point (24) where individually withdrawn banknotes are removed from the banknote compartment (16) to form a wad of notes, consisting of two belt drives (48, 50) between whose endless belts which are oriented in a parallel position and are respectively moved in the same direction by means of a drive cylinder, a wad of banknotes is seized and transported. Said transport section also comprises a drive device which is used to drive the belt drives. The invention is characterized in that the belt drives (48, 50) can be driven at different speeds at least in the direction leading from the output point (34) to the receiving container (18).
