The invention relates to an electronic device (for example camera) comprising the following components: an image reader unit (1), provided with one or several image sensors (6), whereby at least one image sensor permits access to individual pixels. Said image reader unit (1) is embodied such as to be able to receive and carry out image-taking commands. In at least one of said image-taking commands the form of the image segment (60), to be read from said image sensor (6), is freely definable. Said image reader unit (1) only reads and makes available from the image sensor (6), those image segments (60) from said image sensor (6) which correspond to the freely-definable form from the said image taking command.
