The present invention relates to a phthalamide derivative represented by general formula (I) :
wherein each of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 , which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom, a (C 1 =C 6 )alkyl group, a (C 3 -C 6 )alkenyl group or a (C 3 -C 6 )alkynyl group; each of X and Y 1 , which may be the same or different, is a halogen atom; each of Y 2 and Y 4 , which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a cyano group, a (C 1 -C 6 )alkyl group or the like; Y 3 is a cyano group, a (C 1 -C 6 )alkyl group or the like; and n is an integer of 0 or 2; and an agricultural and horticultural insecticide containing said compound as an active ingredient and a method of using the same.
