The invention concerns a flashlight with a battery housing (2), with a housing opening (6) for accommodation of flashlight batteries (3), a closure cap (7) for the housing opening (6), with an opening side (9) and an opposing cap side (10) and holders (12a and 12b) located in the closure cap (7) for a spare illuminant (13), which are shaped in such a way that a first end (13a) of the spare illuminant (13) projects on the opening side from the holders (12a and 12b), at least one contact spring (5) projecting on the opening side from the holders (12a and 12b) which can be flexibly deformed in the direction of the cap side (13) for compression retention of the flashlight batteries (3) and a fixed protective element (15) which is located on the first end (13a) of the spare illuminant (13) and which projects on the opening side at least up to the first end (13a) of the spare illuminant (13).
