Method and computer system for document encryption. An adaptation engine (110) for partial encryption of a document (300) includes a paginator (102) for paginating the document (300) into at least one sub-page (301, 302) according to characteristics of a specific device class. The adaptation engine (110) further includes an encryptor (103) for separately encrypting a to-be-encrypted element of the at least one sub-page (301, 302) using a partial encryption mechanism known by a client device (902) that belongs to the specific device class.
