A fuel injection system (1) comprising a fuel injection valve (2) which is provided with several injection openings (13) and which enables fuel to be injected into a combustion chamber (6) of an internal combustion engine, comprising an ignition device (8) which protrudes into the combustion chamber (6) and has at least one first pole (16) and one second pole (17). The fuel jets (20) exiting from the injection openings (13) form a substantially conical envelope shaped fuel fan (11). The end of the at least one first pole (16) is arranged to the side close to the end of the second pole (17) which protrudes into the combustion chamber (6). The two ends are located at approximately the same level of the longitudinal axis of the ignition device (8).
