The invention relates to a clip device which can be used to reduce the thickness of clip hangers for trousers or skirts. The inventive device comprises a standard clip arm (7) which co-operates with a novel clip arm (1). The central part (2) of the novel arm is off centre and takes the form of a stirrup piece which is placed on the bar of the hanger (3) such that it projects out as little as possible over the frontal plane (AA') defined by the ribs (11 and 12) of the bar. The novel arm, which does not pivot on the bar of the hanger, supports the pivoting lever arm (7) which is placed on the same side of the hanger bar. The clip assembly is held together by the leaf spring (10) such that it can slide along the hanger bar, said spring holding the clamping elements (5 and 9) closed. According to the invention, the device can be used to reduce the thickness of a clip hanger by one third since the two clip arms are fixed to the same side of the hanger bar.
