This invention relates generally to surgical suturing instrument (10) and more particularly to a surgical suturing method in which a needle (34) can be selectively engaged with a fitting (103) at the end of a suture (105) for pulling the suture through a tissue section and released from the suture for permitting subsequent stitches to be made.
