A system and methods are used for the cooking of a food item by the appliation of a non-ambient temperature developed within a temperature retentive element (21). The temperature retentive element (21) can be sized and shaped to form a cooking box (25) in which cooking at a temperature may proceed and from which the food item, when fully cookied, may be served.
