This invention relates to an ironing board (10), which according to its first aspect has an ironing panel providing an ironing surface of a first shape, the ironing board having an extension piece (20) which can be fitted to the ironing panel (12) to provide an enlarged ironing surface of a second shape. According to the second aspect the ironing board (10) is collapsible and comprises an ironing panel (12) and a pair of legs (14,16), the legs being movable relative to the ironing panel (12) between an extended condition and a collapsed condition, the ironing board (10) incorporating a stay (52) which can retain the legs in their extended condition, the stay having a release lever (60) which can be operated to overcome the stay (52) and allow the legs to move to their collapsed condition, characterised in that the release lever is located adjacent to one end of the ironing panel. According to its third aspect, the ironing board has an integral iron rest, the iron rest (16) including a part for receiving the sole plate (70) of an iron, characterised in that the part for receiving the sole plate is recessed.
