An apparatus and method for varying a speed of a hybrid induction motor (HIM). The apparatus comprises a starting capacitor; a driving capacitor; at least one speed varying capacitor for varying a speed of a HIM by a control signal; and a controlling unit for analyzing a user's command, and outputting a control signal to vary the speed of the HIM based on a result of the analysis.
