According to the invention, the supply and removal systems (Z, A) are arranged in a single row, and the holding elements (H) of the groups can be adjusted between a single-row position wherein they are oriented at least approximately parallel to the transport direction, and a multiple-row position transversal to the transport direction. A device (U) for adjusting the position of the holding elements is provided in the vicinity of the loading and unloading regions (L, E).
