The invention relates to a measuring device for determining the strip edge position, the strip width and/or the tensile stress distribution on the width of a strip in a strip treatment installation comprising a deflection roller and a wave transmitter and a wave receiver. Said wave transmitter is oriented in such a manner that waves transmitted in the wave propagation angle thereof strike the peripheral surface of the deflection roller, particularly in the region of the peripheral surface of the deflection roller, in which the edge of the strip deflected by the deflection roller is on the peripheral surface, or that the wave transmitter is oriented in such a manner that waves transmitted in the wave propagation angle thereof in the region of the peripheral surface of the deflection roller, in which the edge of the strip deflected by the deflection roller is on the peripheral surface, lies parallel to the peripheral surface of the deflection roller and at a distance that corresponds to the maximum thickness of the strip. In order to determine tensile stress distribution, sensors are provided in the deflection roller which can measure forces acting in the radial direction of the deflection roller.
