The present invention relates to A method for controlling devices coupled to a programmable multimedia controller comprising: receiving user input on a remote control unit, the remote control unit having a wireless interface for communicating with a plurality of transmitter/receiver units dispersed in various locations in a structure in which the programmable multimedia controller is located; determining a location of the remote control unit; in response to the determined location of the remote control unit, selecting a first menuing capable display located more proximate to the remote control unit than a second menuing capable display; and causing the first menuing capable display located more proximate to the remote control unit than the second menuing capable display to display a menuing system, the menuing system including selectable options for controlling devices coupled to the programmable multimedia controller, wherein each menuing capable display is separate from the remote control unit.
