The recording device (1,100) also includes a recording unit (2) that performs recording on the recording medium (P) that is being conveyed by the conveying unit (21), and the recording unit (2) opposing the conveying unit (21) in the casing (1a). The recording device (1,100) also includes a cassette (1b) that is removably mountable to the casing (1a) and that is positioned in a area (B) adjacent to the conveying unit (21) when the cassette (1b) is mounted to the casing (1a). The recording device (1,100) also includes a movement mechanism (60,61,62) that moves a portion of the conveying unit (21) to the area (B) adjacent to the conveying unit (21) when a portion of the cassette (1b) is removed from the casing (1a).
