The invention relates to a method for trimming an ophthalmic lens (20) that comprises machining the edge of the lens using at least one rotating tool having a rotation axis which is capable of displacement in rotation and radial and axial translations relative to the lens axis. This displacement capability is controlled so that the edge of the lens has a profiled shape, with a fitting rib that can fitted into a glasses groove (11) as well as first and second ledges (26). According to the invention, considering a first longitudinal side of the first ledge and a second longitudinal side of the second ledge, the edge of the lens is machined so that, in each axial cross-section of the lens, the traces in said axial cross-section of the first and second longitudinal sides are separated from the lens axis by first and second distances, the difference (rs) between which varies according to the position of the plane of the axial cross-section in question.
