The invention relates to a lowerable roadway demarcation comprising a guardrail (1) that extends in the longitudinal direction of the roadway, a channel-type pit (10) embodied within the roadway, and a supporting and lifting system (2) that moves the guardrail (1) between a driving-over position in which the guardrail (1) is lowered into the pit (10), to the level of the roadway, and a raised demarcation position. According to the invention, the guardrail (1) is fastened to a dimensionally stable longitudinal beam (4) which rests upon pivotable braces (24). Said braces (24) are pivotally mounted within lower footstep bearings (51) at the bottom of the pit (10). The lifting system (2) is provided with a driving element (40, 41) that acts in a substantially horizontal direction and is mechanically coupled to the braces (24) in order to raise and lower the longitudinal beam (4).
