The present invention relates to an agent comprising as an effective ingredient 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3',5'-dimethoxyflavone for use as a mucosal-protective composition and/or as a prophylactic and/or therapeutic composition for bacterial infection. The present invention further relates to the use of said agent as microbicidal agent.
