A heat engine has a rotary element (10). A plurality of drive devices (14) are arranged within the rotary element (10). Each drive device has a plurality of piston-cylinder devices (16, 18) arranged around a common central expansion chamber (20). Piston heads (22) of the piston (18) bear against a force transmission surface (24) of the rotary element (10) so as to drive said rotary element (10).
