The invention relates to a high pressure pump (10) for delivering a fluid, having a rotatable drive shaft (16), a pump unit (12) which can be driven by said drive shaft (16) and comprises a cylinder housing (14) having a fluid inlet chamber (30) and a high pressure chamber (21) which can be hydraulically coupled to the fluid inlet chamber (30) and in which an axially movable high pressure piston (20) is arranged that is operatively connected to the drive shaft (16) and can be subjected to high pressure, and a volume flow control valve (40). The volume flow control valve (40) is designed to set the fluid flow into the high pressure pump (10) and is at least partially arranged in the fluid inlet chamber (30).
